State Rep. Luke Meerman today was appointed by Speaker Jason Wentworth to serve as the chair of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules.

The Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) is a bi-cameral, statutory committee of the Legislature made up of five members from each chamber, three members of the majority and two members of the minority. The chair of JCAR alternates every year, with the House chairing in odd-numbered years and the Senate in even-numbered years. The committee is responsible for legislative oversight of administrative rules proposed or adopted by state agencies.

“I look forward to serving the Legislature in this new capacity,” said Meerman, of Coopersville. “This committee serves an important oversight role in the function of our state government and it’s an honor to be selected as chair.”

The second-term lawmaker was also appointed to serve as vice chair of the Health Policy Committee and as a member of the Insurance Committee and Tax Policy Committee.

The legislator served on the House Committee on Committees and played a role in determining assignments for all representatives.

Meerman was first elected to serve the 88th House District in November 2018. He represents the residents of Allendale, Georgetown, Tallmadge, Wright, Chester, Coopersville and Polkton townships in Ottawa County.
