State Rep. Alicia St. Germaine has secured $2 million in the state budget to support critical water infrastructure projects in the Macomb County communities she represents.

The funding will help local communities make necessary upgrades to water infrastructure, providing additional state resources for projects that can be difficult for municipalities to finance on their own. Water infrastructure improvements are critical to maintaining reliable service, addressing aging systems and ensuring local infrastructure can continue meeting the needs of families and businesses as communities grow.

“People in Macomb County work hard for their money, and they expect us to be just as careful with it when they send their tax dollars to Lansing,” said St. Germaine. “I fought to secure this $2 million because bringing those dollars back home for necessary infrastructure is exactly what I was sent here to do. These projects may not always be the most visible investments we make, but reliable water infrastructure is something every family and every business depends on every single day.”

In the lakeshore communities, water infrastructure is especially important to protecting homes, neighborhoods and Lake St. Clair. Aging underground water and sewer lines can lead to breaks, backups and costly emergency repairs, while outdated systems can put additional strain on local infrastructure. The $2 million investment will give local communities additional resources to replace and improve aging systems, address problem areas and protect the waterways that are central to Macomb County’s economy and quality of life.

St. Germaine said the appropriation is part of her continued effort to ensure Macomb County communities receive a fair return on the tax dollars residents send to the state.

“Our communities know their needs better than anyone in Lansing, and my job is to make sure they have a strong voice when decisions are being made about where state dollars go,” St. Germaine said. “I will always fight to make sure my district gets its fair share. Securing funding for the infrastructure people rely on every day is a responsible use of taxpayer dollars and an investment that will benefit our communities for years to come.”

The $2 million appropriation was included in the state budget to support local water infrastructure improvements in communities represented by St. Germaine. The funding will help advance projects aimed at strengthening local systems, improving reliability and supporting the long-term infrastructure needs of the area.

“Whether it is the roads we drive on or the water that comes into our homes, the basics matter,” St. Germaine said. “I’m focused on delivering tangible results people can see in their communities and making sure the money they send to Lansing comes back home to work for them.”
