The Truth about Prop 3 and Abortion

“Prop 3 has opened the door for complete and unlimited abortion” – By State Rep. Steve Carra

As we grapple with complete Democrat control in Lansing, I have received many emails and calls from residents across Michigan who seek answers to questions regarding the state of abortion in Michigan. Prop 3 amended Michigan’s state constitution to take innocent life and override laws put into place to protect women and their preborn children.

Prop 3 invalidated parental consent for minors seeking abortions, and is the culmination of repeated attempts by Planned Parenthood and the pro-abortion community to achieve this goal. The language of Prop 3 stated that it would invalidate any state laws in conflict with it, which includes up to 41 current state laws. Laws invalidated by Prop 3 include ultrasound viewing, a ban on partial-birth abortion, the prohibition of taxpayer-funded dollars being used for abortions, and a law that states abortion procedures may only be performed by doctors. Additionally, this proposal received tens of millions of dollars from radical out-of-state leftist groups operated by George Soros.

We are repeatedly told that abortion is healthcare by the left, but healthcare should not include intentionally killing children. Disturbing statistics gathered from a 2011 study in the British Journal of Psychiatry that showed women who had an abortion were:

81% more likely to experience a mental health issue;

34% more likely to develop anxiety;

110% more likely to abuse alcohol;

155% more likely to commit suicide;

220% more likely to abuse marijuana.

Additionally, they fail to mention the potential side effects of this “healthcare” pill such as blood clots in the uterus, an incomplete abortion, the potential for a blood transfusion, uterus infection, and death.

There’s nothing moderate about allowing partial-birth abortions or teenagers to castrate/sterilize themselves or have an abortion without their parent or legal guardian knowing about it. Why does the governor routinely lie about these abortion measures and claim that they save lives? How would she feel if one of her children went through one of these procedures without telling her? These are questions that need to be answered, not just by her, but by any politician who advocated for Prop 3. At a minimum, the governor owes an apology to Michiganders for misrepresenting such barbaric and extreme abortion measures.
